Welcome to Tree Niches Ltd

Tree-Niches is a not-for-profit organization working towards ending deforestation through establishment and restoration of tree niches in degraded forests and landscapes.

We work in collaboration with individuals, local and international partners, corporates, the government and the local communities to grow trees in schools, cities, farmlands, and degraded forests so as to promote healthy ecosystems, rich biodiversity, offset carbon dioxide emissions and improve local economies.

At Tree-Niches we believe that the best approach to conserve and sustainably manage healthy forests is by early education and practicing of tree planting in schools. We educate and provide practical skills to pupils in schools through tree planting and monitoring activities. Students shall learn about roles of trees in environment, species of trees, methods of planting and monitoring of trees.

Also, the local communities are fundamental in reforesting degraded natural forests. More often than not, local communities especially the forest adjacent communities have diverse challenges with sources of livelihoods being the major concern. At Tree-Niches we collaborate with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and the Community Forest Associations (CFA) to grow trees whilst growing livelihood opportunities. Through participation in tree planting and other restoration activities members of the local communities will be empowered on forest conservation and, at the same time, have reasonable income.

Overall, the degraded forests will be restored and the local economies will be improved. Agroforestry is another initiative that not only increase tree cover but also improve food security, soil health and sustainable livelihoods. Tree-Niches works with landowners to grow agroforestry trees though agreed farm models on their farms for various benefits; soil and water management, food security, income generation from agro-commodities, increase tree cover, climate resilience among others.
